Muslims in Nigeria Crucify a Cat over Anti-Islam film Hoax

The actions of some Muslims protesting over the supposed anti-islamic film has caused a great deal of grief for the majority of sane Muslims around the world. But just when we thought the public ridicule over these Muslims actions couldn’t get any worse, the Muslim hating Islamophobes have joined in the action and spread around a fake story about Muslims youths in Nigeria crucifying a cat on the cross to protest the film.

It seems the story originated on the Nigeria News section of the Online Nigeria website, and is simply a photograph of the cat crucifixion accompanied with the caption “Muslim Youths In Nigeria Crucify A Cat On The Cross To Protest Anti-Islam Film”. At the time of publication of this article the page is still live, and can be accessed at: http://news2.onlinenigeria.com/news/top-stories/195435-muslim-youths-in-nigeria-crucify-a-cat-on-the-cross-to-protest-anti-islam-film.html

The hate-spreaders have taken over from there, including well known liars Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch, and his partner in crime Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs. It appears they have started and inflamed the fire, and then tried to cover up their tracks by deleting the evidence of their involvement. But although they have since deleted their original article posts, records can still be found in Google, such as the screenshot below.

As the article and photo have spread, both of their websites have consistently been named as the source of the information, and links are even included to their original content. There has also been speculation in the forums that Robert Spencer and/or Pamela Geller are behind the whole thing, and were responsible for creating the cat crucifixion lie in the first place, including posting it on the Nigerian site and potentially others.

Links to the original articles by Spencer and Geller (no longer working), and their dramatic titles:

Screenshots siting their articles as the original sources:

It turns out that the crucified cat photo is real, but it has nothing to do with Muslims. It is actually a photo from Ghana which surfaced last year, and features a group of men believed to be Christians, performing a crucifixion on a cat they thought was a demon. Once again, it always helps if people research information before blindly posting it around.

One such person who has done their research is Sheila Musaji of The American Muslim. She has written a good article on this topic, which also exposes the long history of Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller in fabricating outrageous lies against Muslims and Islam.
